Mindfulness is a self-help treatment that may reduce your stress.
The 8 week Mindfulness Based Stress Reducton Course was developed 35 years ago for people suffering from stress and stress related problems at one America’s leading hospitals.
It is currently being introduced into the NHS, into schools and the Houses of Parliament.
Vanessa has been meditating for many years suffering from some stress related illness.
She found that the best treatment was mindfulness, you can catch the triggers and embrace the moment. “MBSR has helped me immensely and now I have more freedom from life stresses”
She has been teaching MBSR courses for five years in Essex and at the University of Essex, working with both student and staff. Since moving to Suffolk she has now set up her courses for the community and health services
Mindfulness based stress reduction can help us to be more present and accepting toward emotional stress, depression, anxiety, and chronic pain. We can do this through the practice of mindfulness by becoming more aware of our thoughts, feelings and body sensations, from moment –to- moment. In practicing mindfulness we give ourselves the possibility of greater freedom and choice, so we do not have to go into the same old ‘mental ruts’.
About the course
You will learn a variety of simple practices from mindful movement and mindfulness meditation, which help you to respond rather than react to stress and difficulty, enabling you to make profound changes in your life.
Most courses run for eight weeks of 2-hour weekly sessions. Each session teaches new skills; but also offers a deeper understanding into those already learned. For this reason it is strongly recommended that you attend all of the sessions. Discussion in both small and large groups allows exploration of your experience and difficulties. The course also includes a full day of practice one weekend.
FREE downloads and a workbook are provided for you to use at home. This home-practice is an integral part of the course as it enables you to establish the skills that you are learning as part of your daily life. It takes approximately 20 to 45 minutes daily, so it can be challenging to fit it into your schedule; but a gentle and patient commitment to it is essential to get the most out of the course.
